FS2 RECEPTION

Remote Learning for THURSDAY 9TH JANUARY

Good morning. We will be having online lessons today with Mrs Thomas at 2pm and Mrs Hayhurst at 2.45. We anticipate these lessons lasting for about 30 minutes. The best lesson for us to teach online is phonics, so you will need a pencil and some paper with you to start.

Before that, during the day you can do some other things (which are optional) and these are listed below.

Literacy

In Literacy this week we were going to be looking at the a story of The Storm Whale. Copy and paste this url to watch it on you tube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stTgKoEXS7U&t=23s

Read the sentences below. Draw a picture of yourself to introduce yourself to the boy. Draw a speech bubble and then write the words I am.... and then put your name in. If you want to write more, then you can tell the boy a bit about yourself too.

Maths

  • Watch the numberblocks clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vCI6Dq_piw

  • Let’s roll a die to play a game! If you don't have a dice, you can use this virtual one Full screen Dice!

  • Which number has been rolled? (“e.g. 5!”) How do you know? Let’s clap our hands [5] times. When do we need to stop?

Draw attention to the whole amount when it is reached and to the fact that we need to stop when we reach this ‘stopping’ number. It may help to make a deliberate mistake for the children to spot here. Repeat the activity several times, perhaps using different actions, e.g. jumping/hopping/patting their heads/waving their arms etc.

  • Play the game on Topmarks: Counting/Addition Game

Phonics

Today we are learning about the new digraph oa as in boat. Join our live lesson to learn this with us.

If you are unable to attend, please watch the phonics 'oa' video to learn our new digraph. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35rm12WzgXM

Remote Learning for FRIDAY 10th JANUARY

Good morning. We hope you managed to access the learning online on this web page and online face to face yesterday. We will be having another online phonics lesson today with Mrs Thomas at 2pm and Miss Prest at 2.45pm in which we will be going over the trigraph 'igh' that we set as home learning for Wednesday. We anticipate the lesson lasting for about 30 minutes. You will need a pencil and some paper with you to start the lesson.

Read the sentences from yesterday with the pictures of Mrs Thomas and Mrs Hayhurst.

Today, draw a picture of two different members of your family (this can be mum/dad/Billy/Fred) to introduce them to the boy. Draw a speech bubble and then write the words I am.... and then put their name in. If you want to write more, then they can tell the boy a bit about themselves too.

Maths

For this lesson, your child will need objects such as counters or similar e.g. raisins, smarties, playdough etc. You will need to access the dot card arrangements document which can either be printed or shown on the screen.

Provide the children with counters (or similar) to copy some of the dot card arrangements . Show them the cards quickly, then encourage them to shut their eyes and visualise the arrangements before they make them. Let’s quickly ‘take a picture’ with our eyes! What did you see? Can you make the picture with these counters? Let’s see if it matches the arrangement on my card.

Using the dot cards again, discuss with the children the arrangements of dots. What do they look like? What can we quickly see?

If you are able to print out the dot cards, you could draw lines around the sub-groups in the arrangements (or use your fingers to simultaneously tag them) and circle the whole amount as you discuss them. Oh yes! I can see what you mean! Here’s a 2 and here’s another 2, so that makes 4 altogether! Can you show me the same thing on your fingers?

Phonics

Today we are learning about the new trigraph /igh/ as in night. Join our live lesson to learn this with us.

If you are unable to attend, please complete the phonics /igh/ activities to re-cap this trigraph. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zkhvhbk
